5.6 magnitude quake off Taiwan lightly shakes island
2014/3/19
A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Taiwan on Wednesday night, causing light shaking on the island, the U.S. Geological Survey and the Taiwanese Central Weather Bureau said.
The quake, centered in the Philippine Sea about 65 kilometers east of Taiwan's east coast, did not pose any tsunami threat, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The shaking lasted less than a minute. No reports of major damage were reported.
Government officials on the island asked residents to be on alert for aftershocks.
