At the Anuga FoodTec 2012 that was held in Cologne from 27 to 30 March, the Technical University of Munich (TUM) received the "International FoodTec Award 2012" in gold from the German Agricultural Society (DLG) for realising the Weihenstephan WS Food Standard.

The WS Food Standard is the result of the work of a project group in which S+S Separation and Sorting Technology is the only project partner from the field of contaminant detection technology. Under the lead management of the TUM, meat processing companies, machine suppliers, system and consulting firms, and the FPI (Food Processing Initiative) cooperated to develop the details for data acquisition and evaluation for a standardised IT concept.

The international jury explained its decision to award the DLG "International FoodTec Award 2012" in gold to WS food as follows:

"The transparency of internal processes in companies is becoming more and more decisive for the competitiveness of companies. One essential element for this is the digital networking of the production and management levels by means of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES). Such a MES only can be successful if it is based on a systematic and standardised data basis and thus ensures correct data preparation and processing. This is exactly where the problem lies with conventional systems in the food industry as they have been used so far, because machine manufacturers use different control systems. The "Weihenstephan Standards" represent a new and innovative concept for manufacturer-independent and integrative data acquisition in the food and beverage industry. The developed solution can considerably improve the industry's possibilities with respect to quality assurance and increasing efficiency."
